Event Details

Impact

Our team ran a series of workshops discussing common difficulties for new immigrants when entering the Canadian workforce. These included tips for resume writing along with interactive markups, portfolio reviews, salary negotiations, and interview prep. Through interactive discussion, we were able to advise on common themes and difficulties, as well as areas to improve how we portray our drawings and designs to stand out to potential employers. Our team was also able to provide valuable resources in terms of bridging programs for internationally trained professionals and educational courses to boost their Canadian Architectural knowledge.

Feedback

So far, our feedback has been extremely positive, with a tremendous amount of support for the assistance we were able to offer through this event. In launching Axis Career Hub, our goal was to begin a pro bono initiative where we could use our professional experience to provide feedback on the Canadian job market, both virtually through our Career Starter Program, and in-person through events such as SOSA’s Suit Up Series. We would like to thank the team at SOSA for allowing us to utilize their platform to openly discuss these common difficulties.

What’s next?

We have built out our platform for Axis Career Hub and will be spending a set number of hours every week as a team to help new immigrants with the resumes and portfolios. We are working on putting together webinars where industry professionals speak about their career pathways.
