Senior Building Code & Accessibility Consultant

Location: Greater Toronto Area

Full Time, Remote/Hybrid

Compensation: $70,000 to $100,000 depending on experience and certifications. Benefits package included. Two weeks paid holiday closure over the winter break in addition to standard vacation.



Description of the Company

This is a small, growing boutique consulting firm specializing in building code and accessibility consulting across Ontario and beyond. The team works with architects, designers, and developers on a wide range of commercial projects, from law firms and corporate offices to convention centers and community spaces. The firm is known for going beyond code regurgitation, bringing real design experience and genuine advocacy to every project. The culture is flexible, values-driven, and built around doing meaningful work in the built environment.

Why this Role is Open

The firm is growing steadily and the principal needs a senior-level person who can take ownership of projects and run with them independently. This is a foundational hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lead building code and accessibility reviews on commercial projects with minimal oversight

  • Prepare reports, drawing reviews, and letters of interpretation for accessibility and building code

  • BCIN stamping for interior fit-outs

  • Manage project timelines and client communication directly

  • Conduct site visits in the GTA to review existing conditions

  • Engage and coordinate with cost consultants on applicable projects

  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff as the team grows

  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and occasional educational presentations

Must-haves

  • 8–10+ years of experience in Accounts Payable or project-based accounting

  • Experience working within architecture, engineering, construction, or professional services firms

  • Strong understanding of project-based payables workflows

  • Experience processing and managing vendor invoices tied to project work

  • High attention to detail and strong reconciliation skills

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

  • Strong communication skills when working with internal stakeholders such as project principals

Nice-to-haves

  • P.Eng designation

  • BCIN (Large/Complex Buildings and/or Small Buildings)

  • Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC)

  • Background as an interior designer or architectural technologist

  • Familiarity with Class D / order-of-magnitude budgeting

  • Experience submitting or supporting RFP/fee proposals

Work Style

Fully remote with periodic site visits in the GTA. The firm runs on trust and flexibility, 37.5 hours per week. The team is small and the expectation is that you manage your own schedule and deliver on your commitments.
